This week we had a discussion and some argument about the St. Basil website. I had some useful feedback and took some stuff in consideration. I moved the search bar from the top to be alongside the navigation and I have also moved the address of the church to the top of the page across from the logo helping it balance the page out. I did not change the photo. The church’s focus is their events and gaining stewardship to expand their community. Their main focus will be displayed on the front big and the visitor would be able to find what the church is targeting towards. The bottom navigation is more of a sort cut to other useful information for the user.
Week 3 Senior Project Development
With my Senior Project I decided to go with a WordPress implementation to the website. Last time I used it I felt limited and wanted to expand more on my WordPress skills. Aside from making a templete I felt there was a lot more to the CMS platform. I am trying to think outside the box and even though its taking me time to figure out things I think by doing so has already landed me some fairly cool things to do. Chatting with some of my school mates we found a website that gave a good tutorial in figuring out what I wanted to do:

Reading this article helped me achieve pulling in posts into a static page giving me more freedom to get fancy with my pages as I feel. More development will arise from this.

Senior Project Development – St. Basil Website Re-Design
Description
Re-Design website to make it more user friendly. Integrate it with a CMS (WordPress) for staff and volunteers at the church to have access and able to update needed sections of the website without the immediate need of the developer. Continue reading
Davis at Sierra Prep Football
My second game I shot for The Record this season was at Sierra High School against Davis. I ended up getting there later that I wanted too because of traffic that day making me miss warmups. To me, the best time to get the cool feature photographs are during the warms ups…at least for the most part so this time I had to find something else rather than during warmups. Hanging out near the players I can usually find a shot or two…and this time I found the shot above. Luck me, I had my wide angle lens on when the coach came and gave a tap to one of his players helmets congratulating him on a nice stop. Continue reading
Lincoln at West High in Tracy CA
It has been a long time since I blogged so there is a lot to catch up on. My first game for the High School season football was at West with the visiting team being Lincoln. I always love the start of the season as the light is just right before the game starts and you can turn out some fantastic photos. I recently reduced how many bodies I carry with me since I do this as a part time gig while in school and interning but it does not stop me from following my first love of photography around.
NoobTut.com final
The quarter is over and our projects where ready to present. Overall I am pleased with my project and my teacher seemed to be as well! I wanted to say thank you to all in my class who gave me feedback on the final product (though there is a lot more to come) and enjoyed my time there. Those people include:
And our wonderful teacher
NoobTut.com is ready to go and there to help any one who is interested in online strategy gaming.
Adding Advertisers to NoobTut.com
In conjunction of taking a commerce class to this project I decided to look into creating affiliates to fund this website. Researching the different types of games that are out there that relate to NoobTut.com became a challenge not because it was hard to find but it was hard to get in contact with the people who run these websites and games to inquire about affiliate programs.
I found one website that had several games that related to strategy and that was bigpoint.com. I was able to create an affiliate account and add an advertisement to my website to give it more of a “gaming website” feel. I also dove into more of google’s adsense to see what they had to offer. Even though I am still experimenting with what Google has to offer to make it seems as its more part of the website, I am enjoying the outcome so far.
NoobTut.com In Class Feedback
Last week everyone showed their progress in their individuals projects. I had a few classmates that gave me feedback on the website and the two biggest complains was the navigation and the white with black background. From there I agreed on what was said about the project and made the adjustments.
I moved the categories and the archives to the top in order for people to be able to navigate through the site a bit better instead of looking through all the pages to find something. I also moved to search to the top right for people to look for key words in order to find what they are looking for. Taking that into consideration, I also used several key words in my post (and a reason why there is a write up in each of the posting) in order for people to find the article that best fits what they want to do as far as a tutorial goes.
Testing information on NoobTut.com
After creating a few web episodes and right-ups I send the link to NoobTut.com to a few different people in the alliance and in the game. They all came back with fairly good feedback and gave me some ideas on what types of tutorials they wanted shown on the websites. The biggest and most popular tutorial that I have found was on finding and looking for medals. This is one of the most frustrating parts of the game. Currently I am working on more detailed medal hunting tips as this would probably be one of the longest tutorials I would have to create.
As far as the look of the website, most enjoyed and did not find anything wrong with it.
